FERNDALE, Mich. —
A Detroit suburb is gearing up for its annual gay pride festival.

Organizers are expecting more than 40,000 people are expected to attend Motor City Pride festival in downtown Ferndale during the weekend.

The Daily Tribune reports the main festival is Sunday but includes a commitment ceremony in front of Ferndale City Hall and other events on Saturday.

Organizer David Wait says the event celebrates the lives of gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Craig Covey, the city’s openly gay mayor, says the festival is gay- and business-friendly because it’s such a large-scale event.

The festival includes live music, youth and family activity areas, and food and craft vendors.
