Society is so slow to accept what they don't understand. Ignorance causes fear and prejudice. I think one of the best things for the trans... community is to push for more studies and publication of the truth regarding the science and mental facts regarding our way of life. Historically the gay population has recieved more acceptance than the trans population and I believe history also shows broader broadcasting of the gay lifestyle. We need some realistic television shows for trans'. Sure just like the black or gay community trans would be shown as a joke in sitcom's ect but with time more serious rolls could be pushed for in television, publications and entertainment. It would drastically help people understand if a T.V., movie or Broadway star would play well written productions depicting a trans person. Life imitates art. Art showed man on the moon and we did it. Art showed a gay man living a productive life in America because or art first. At the very least it will open non threatening dialogue so that the truth can be exposed and ignorance fall away with the fear. So I hope.

Wow,

I guess a lot of this depends on where you work as well. I suppose I have it easy here in the mental health field. I think everyone is pretty open and out here, one never knows for sure. This is a safe environment for people and progressive. I suppose other fields and businesses are more harsh.
